G arces Memorial High School is Bakersfield, California's premier High School. Garces Memorial is an academically challenging, college preparatory, co-educational Catholic high school, founded in 1947 by the Christian Brothers and Dominican Sisters of St. Thomas Aquinas. Today it is operated by the Diocese of Fresno and staffed by a lay faculty and administration who are inspired by their Catholic faith to minister to the needs of the student body.

Our school educates youth to fulfill the mission of Christ by developing students spiritually, intellectually, and socially. Our mission calls us to instill in every member of the Garces Memorial community respect, integrity, compassion, and courage of faith.

Garces has one of the most successful sports programs in the history of the Central Section CIF, ranked fourth all-time with 114 Central Section team championships, as well as dozens of individual championships in swimming, diving, tennis, golf, track and cross-country.

Garces Senior Kathryn VanderPoel named Dairy Princess

Congratulations to Garces senior, Kathryn VanderPoel, who was chosen by the California Milk Advisory Board to serve as Dairy Princess for District #10 for the 2014-2015 year.  Her duties will include visiting elementary schools and attending media events, the Kern County Fair, and other community events.  She will speak about the California Dairy Industry and educate the public about farms and where their food comes from (farm to table).  She will also to promote the Real California Milk Seal to explain that the dairy products with the seal come from local dairy farms in the State of California.  As a Dairy Princess, she will receive a $1,000.00 dollar scholarship.   


Congratulations to Drew Rogers - World Champion!
  Garces junior, Drew Rogers, was unanimously selected as the 2014 Youth Trail 14-18 All-Around World Champion.  Drew also earned a reserve world championship in Youth Western Riding 14-18, Top Fives in Youth Western Pleasure 14-18 and Youth Hunt-Seat Equitation, and a top 10 in Youth Showmanship.  Those solid efforts helped Drew clinch the All-Around 14-18 title. For her big win, she received a $1,000 scholarship. 

Congratulations Matt Pandol - State Champion

Garces senior, Matt Pandol, competed in several Sporting Clay Tournaments over the summer - the NSCA US Western Open Sporting Clays Tournament in Mount Vernon, Washington, the Silver Buckle Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the California State Sporting Clays Championship in El Monte, California.  He took home awards at every tournament and is the FITASC Junior State Champion! He has also been named to the All-American 2nd Team Sub Junior. 


Congratulations to Sarah Bayne - State Champion!
Garces junior Sarah Bayne was named the 2014 California State Fair 4-H and Grand Overall Champion this year for her skills at raising and showing her sheep.  Congratulations Sarah on being a State Champion!

Garces Cheerleaders Win Multiple Awards!
At the Fresno State USA Cheer Camp, the Garces Cheerleaders took home multiple awards! Nevada Alison received the All American Award and has been invited to perform in London for New Years!  Mikaella Estoque and Danielle Lacayo received 'Pin it Forward' pins from the camp instructors.  Paige Sakowski, Nevada Allison, and Bianca Burkhart were all chosen to receive pins from their fellow cheer campers! The Garces Varsity team received the Superior Award for scoring a constant superior rating on all camp evaluations and the entire team took home the Spirit Award two days in a row.  The Garces team also won the most exciting and sought after award, the Unity Award! The Unity Award is voted on by the entire camp for the team that exemplifies team unity and sportsmanship.
